North Precinct detectives are pursuing what they believe to be strong leads as they work to identify the gunman who killed Shop-N-Save market owner Gene T. Kim inside the 1497 County Hospital Road store shortly before 9 p.m. Thursday.
Kim, 52, who lived in Brentwood, was gunned down behind the counter seconds after the suspect entered the store. The gunman quickly fled. There is no indication at present that any money was taken.
Detectives continue to investigate whether Kim’s murder is connected to his confrontation with two customers earlier in the evening over suspected shoplifting.
A number of citizens have offered information both in person and through Crime Stoppers after seeing surveillance video from the market broadcast on television.
Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Gene T. Kim
