Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, resulted in 63 arrests involving five felonies, 70 misdemeanors, and eight outstanding warrants. Seized were 32.5 grams of marijuana, 2.7 grams of cocaine, 4.5 various pills, and three weapons.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 12 SID detectives, four patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were Connare Drive, the Madison area, Due West Avenue, the Valley Grove area, Haywood Lane, Harding Place, Apache Trail, Packard Drive, Nolensville Pike, and Antioch Pike.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Connare Drive at Apple Valley Road, the Madison area, Due West Avenue, Dutchmans Drive at Dutchmans Court, Haywood Lane, Harding Place, Apache Trail, Packard Drive, Nolensville Pike, and Antioch Pike.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Tampa Drive, Harding Place, and Nolensville Pike.

So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,443 arrests involving 1,585 misdemeanor charges, 273 felony charges, and 278 outstanding warrants.
