Outstanding investigative work by South Precinct detectives led to the arrest last night of murder suspect Jose Dominquez, 24, of Veracruz, Mexico.
Dominquez is charged with criminal homicide in the fatal shooting of Juan Tellez Benitez, 37, outside the victim’s 371 Wallace Road apartment Monday at 12:30 a.m.
Dominquez was taken into custody at an apartment on Humber Drive where he was staying with a friend. He admitted his involvement in the homicide, telling detectives Benitez owed him money and refused to pay.
A handgun was recovered from the apartment along with a cell phone that is believed to have been used to call Benitez shortly before the murder.
Dominquez is being held without bond on the murder charge. A federal immigration hold has also been placed on him because he is suspected of illegally entering the United States.
