The keen eyes of Metro Police helicopter pilot Johnny Hansel led to the seizure of 172 marijuana plants with a street value of at least $137,000 from a field in the Joelton area.

Officer Hansel spotted the grow operation Tuesday near Little Marrowbone Road. The plants were pulled by ground officers.

The Aviation Unit performs routine patrols during the marijuana growing season to search for suspicious activity on the ground.

So far this summer, the Aviation Unit has seized 341 plants from five fields with a street value of at least $247,000 dollars.
