
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, resulted in 54 arrests involving 14 felonies, 55 misdemeanors, and two outstanding warrants. Seized were five grams of marijuana, 4.9 grams of cocaine, and $559 cash.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of 14 SID detectives, six patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were North 5th Street at Vernon Winfrey Avenue, Dickerson Pike at Douglas Avenue, Gallatin Avenue at Seymour Avenue, North 16th Street at Straightway Avenue, North 7th Street at Ramsey Street, Dickerson Pike at Whites Creek Pike, 11th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, Blank Street, 10th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, and Brick Church Pike.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, four patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Dickerson Pike at Cleveland Street, University Court, Bransford Avenue, Wedgewood Avenue, and the J.C. Napier public housing development.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and one patrol officer. Areas targeted were the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Harding Place, Haywood Lane, Nolensville Pike, Richards Road, Tampa Drive, and Paragon Mills.
So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,338 arrests involving 1,464 misdemeanor charges, 265 felony charges, and 265 outstanding warrants.
