FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 4, 2007

A 17-year-old junior at Whites Creek High School faces drug, escape, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest charges after being caught trying to pass a Xanax pill, wrapped in a dollar bill, to another student at 12:30 p.m. today. A teacher intercepted the bill and notified the principal.

The student was taken to an office where he became unruly, cursed uncontrollably, and refused to comply with officers' directions. He was placed under arrest and handcuffed behind his back. As an officer attempted to put the student into his patrol car, the teenager jerked away and fled on foot. He ran back inside the school and was eventually taken into custody after hiding in the music room. The 17-year-old again resisted arrest and was pepper sprayed by a School Resource officer.

A second student who did not tell officers the 17-year-old was hiding under a desk, and who attempted to help him get out of his handcuffs, is being charged with aiding and abetting.
