FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 4, 2007

More than four months of investigation by Sex Crimes detectives resulted in today’s arrest of a 14-year-old for raping one woman and trying to rape another in East Nashville on April 21.

Santez Bradford, a student at Johnson Alternative Center, is charged with aggravated rape, attempted aggravated rape, and two counts of unlawful gun possession. Hermitage Precinct officers arrested Bradford early today as he hid under a pile of clothes inside his Claiborne Street home.

At 4:45 p.m. on April 21, a teenager now identified as Bradford entered a garage on South 11th Street and, at gunpoint, raped a woman in her 30’s who had just arrived home. Earlier that afternoon, a 17-year-old girl reported that she was walking in the 600 block of South 6th Street when a teenager came up behind her, put a gun to her head, and threw her to the ground. The victim fought her attacker, who wound up fleeing after he saw another person approaching. The 17-year-old was not sexually assaulted or seriously injured.

“This 14-year-old posed a significant risk to our community,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “Detective Brian Doersam and his colleagues in the Sex Crimes Unit worked very hard to gather the information and evidence necessary to get him identified and off the streets.”

Detectives were able to identify Bradford by working very closely with the adult victim and through the circulation of a composite sketch of the suspect.

Bradford is being held in juvenile detention pending a hearing.

Detectives are investigating whether Bradford is connected to any other criminal activity.
