FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 29, 2007

Outstanding work by Hermitage and South Precinct officers and detectives led to the arrest of Angel Daniel Garcia, 23, of Millwood Drive, shortly after he was suspected of robbing two Mapco stores last night.

The Mapco at 234 Thompson Place was robbed at 8:30 p.m. About an hour later, a second robbery occurred at the Mapco at 553 Murfreesboro Pike. In both robberies, the suspect approached the counter with a six-pack of beer, robbed victims at gunpoint, and fled in a 1998 green Toyota Camry with a temporary tag.

Shortly after the second robbery, Hermitage Precinct Detective Andy Injaychock spotted a car matching the description of the suspect’s Toyota on Murfreesboro Pike. Garcia was a passenger in the Camry. The driver turned into an apartment complex on Plus Park Boulevard where he and Garcia fled on foot.

South and Hermitage Precinct officers converged on the area and captured Garcia. The driver escaped.

A BB gun, that strongly resembled a handgun, was located in the Toyota. Some of the stolen cash was found in Garcia’s pocket. The victims identified him as the robber.

Garcia is charged with four counts of aggravated robbery and evading arrest. He is being held in lieu of $211,000 dollars bond.

A federal immigration hold has also been placed on Garcia because he is suspected of illegally entering the United States.
