FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 27, 2007

This morning’s collision involving a minivan and a car on Donelson Pike near Terminal Drive claimed the lives of three persons. A fourth is in critical condition at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.

At 9:10 a.m., a 1986 Toyota Corolla driven by Marie Laurore, 40, of Long Branch in Antioch, was traveling south on Donelson Pike when it collided head-on with a northbound 1992 Dodge Caravan being driven by Evelyn Cunningham, 41, of Brittany Drive. Cunningham and her three-year-old daughter, Akia Cunningham, received fatal injuries. Neither was restrained. Laurore also received fatal injuries. Her two-year-old son, Johnathan Laurore, was critically hurt and was transported to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital. Both were restrained.

The investigation to this point indicates that the Corolla crossed the center line of Donelson Pike into the path of the minivan. It is not yet known why this occurred. Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be contributing factors.
