Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, likely prevented a shooting at a teen party and resulted in 51 arrests involving eight felonies, 64 misdemeanors, and four outstanding warrants. Seized were 27.4 grams of marijuana, 9.1 grams of cocaine, five Ecstasy pills, three weapons, and $6,024 cash.
On Saturday, Safer Streets officers stopped three juveniles before they entered a teen night party at a business on Dr. DB Todd Boulevard at St. Louis Street. One of the teens dropped a handgun. Other officers stopped a stolen car on the other side of the building and detained two suspected gang members. During field interviews officers learned that a shooting might take place at the party. Officers maintained a presence until the party ended, assisted in moving the juveniles out of the area, and prevented criminal activity. Other areas targeted Saturday by the enforcement team of seven Specialized Investigations Division (SID) detectives, five patrol officers, and one canine unit were the J.C. Napier public housing development, the Edgehill area, 12th Avenue South at Demonbreun Street, Jefferson Street, and Buchanan Street.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, six patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, Harding Place at Nolensville Pike, Linbar Drive, Wallace Road, Trimble Bottoms, the Cheatham Place public housing development, 8th Avenue North at Jefferson and Garfield Streets.
