Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 16, 2007

The keen eyes of Metro Police helicopter pilots this summer have led to the seizure of 169 marijuana plants from four fields with a street value of at least $110,000 dollars.

Pilot Johnny Hansel, with Special Operations Lieutenant Ken Spencer on board, spotted 37 plants late last week on the Davidson/Cheatham County line. Those plants have since been pulled by ground officers. The other three grow operations were spotted near Joelton, in East Nashville, and along Highway 100.

Officer Hansel leads the Aviation Unit in locating outdoor marijuana grow operations.

The Aviation Unit performs routine patrols during the marijuana growing season to search for suspicious activity on the ground.
