South Precinct officers arrested Andre Alexander Smith, 45, who is homeless, early this morning near 5th Avenue South and Oak Street on a criminal homicide warrant. Smith is charged in the stabbing death last month of Evan Craig Ellis, 23, who was also homeless.
Hermitage Precinct Detective Robert Shotwell identified Smith as the man who stabbed Ellis during an altercation on University Court shortly after 9 p.m. on July 30.
Smith has been arrested over 50 times with numerous assault, trespassing, and theft convictions. He is being held in lieu of $500,000 dollars bond.
