
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon and evening resulted in 64 arrests involving 14 felonies, 66 misdemeanors, and 13 outstanding warrants. Seized were 83.4 grams of marijuana, 4.8 grams of cocaine, and $1,518 cash.
At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Madison area, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, Apache Trail, Haywood Lane, and Richards Road.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of 15 SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Brick Church Pike at Trinity Lane, Douglas Avenue, 2nd Avenue South at Lafayette Street, 11th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, South 7th Street at Sylvan Street, 14th Avenue North at Ireland Street, 16th Avenue North at Jo Johnston Avenue, 10th Avenue North at Charlotte Avenue, and Harding Place at Nolensville Pike.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, Harding Place at Tampa Drive, 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, and the Edgehill Avenue area.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1,131 arrests on 235 felony charges and 1,226 misdemeanor charges, 273 drug seizures, the service of 231 outstanding warrants, 324 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,725 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
