
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon and evening resulted in 58 arrests involving four felonies, 66 misdemeanors, and eight outstanding warrants. Seized were 33.9 grams of marijuana and one pill.
At least twice a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Madison area, the James Cayce public housing development, Tampa Drive, Linbar Drive, Wallace Road, Zermatt Avenue, and the Hickory Hollow Mall area.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Tampa Drive, Linbar Drive, Harding Place at Nolensville Pike, the Cheatham Place public housing development, 8th Avenue North at Jefferson and Garfield Streets, and the J.C. Napier public housing development.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Percy Priest Lake area, Harding Place at Tampa Drive, the James Cayce public housing development, and Cleveland Street at Lischey Avenue.
So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 1067 arrests on 221 felony charges and 1160 misdemeanor charges, 265 drug seizures, the service of 218 outstanding warrants, 300 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,592 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
