The 16-year-old accused in last month’s shooting death of a teenage girl is now facing a second murder count.
A juvenile court petition was filed today by North Precinct Detective Danny Satterfield charging Dijon Lester Simon with the April 30th shooting death of 21-year-old Montrell Deshawn Stewart on Batavia Street. A juvenile court petition was filed Monday by West Precinct Detective James Arendall charging Simon with killing 16-year-old Brandy Nicole White and wounding her friend, 17-year-old Latasha Black, inside a Hillside Avenue apartment on July 18th. Simon was a runaway from the Department of Children’s Services when the homicides occurred. Metro police arrested him on an unrelated offense on July 18th. He is presently in DCS custody and is scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court on August 8th.
Also charged in the Stewart murder is 17-year-old Zachery Lynn Ruffin. Ruffin was arrested by Metro officers July 19th on an unrelated charge. He is confined at Metro juvenile detention.
Detectives believe both murders resulted from gang-related issues.
