FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 26, 2007

A man has died as the result of a two-vehicle collision Wednesday afternoon on I-24 West near Harding Place.

A Gray Line bus driver, Elliot Wilson, 56, of Nashville, was transporting 17 passengers when he stopped on I-24 due to an earlier accident. Traffic was at a standstill in the westbound lanes when Wilson noticed a jack-knifed tractor trailer traveling in his direction. He began to move the bus into the far left lane to avoid being hit by the truck when he was struck in the rear by a Ford Econline van driven by Floyd Warrick. It does not appear Warrick attempted to brake before the collision.

Wilson and his passengers were not injured.

Warrick, 42, of Kent Road, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown into the van’s windshield. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.

At the time of the accident a heavy, localized rainstorm led to numerous accidents on I-24 near Harding Place.

Warrick’s excessive speed for road/weather conditions appears to be the contributing factor to this fatal crash.
