The man shot to death in the 1700 block of 17th Avenue North just before midnight is identified as Michael Lance McCord, 22, of 9th Avenue North.
Charged with criminal homicide in the case is Antonio Deshawn Banks, 21, of 17th Avenue North,
North Precinct Officer Kenneth O’Neal was patrolling the area when he heard gunshots. O’Neal spotted Banks, who was carrying a gun, get into a parked gold Ford Contour and speed off. O’Neal pursued the car to an alley near Underwood Street, where it was abandoned by its occupants. Banks was apprehended in the rear of a home on Underwood Street by Officer James Ramey.
Officers found McCord dead on 17th Avenue North. Troy Floyd, Jr., 38, of Hawkwood Drive, was wounded and made it to the 1600 block of Century Street where he collapsed from two gunshot wounds. Floyd is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
During an interview with Detective Robert Swisher, Banks admitted to being involved in the gunfire and eluding officers in the gold Contour. Banks is also being charged with attempted criminal homicide for the wounding of Floyd. Banks’ connection to Floyd and McCord is under investigation. Detectives are investigating the possibility that Banks and McCord were together and attempted to rob Floyd.
Banks’ arrest history includes drug offenses. McCord is a convicted robber whose arrest history includes drug charges. Floyd’s arrest history contains several drug offenses, as well as probation and parole violations.
