Metro police and the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force are working to identify the man who robbed Bank of America’s 1634 Church Street branch at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.
The robber approached the teller area and asked for “straps” before asking for coin wrappers. The teller retrieved some coin wrappers and handed them to the robber. The man then produced a bank robbery demand note. As the teller read the note, the robber said, “Just give me money or I will kill you or someone in the bank.” The teller, in fear, provided cash from a bank drawer and the robber fled.
The suspect is described as a white man in his 50s. He is approximately 6’3” tall and weighs approximately 225 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a dark ball cap with the Los Angeles Dodgers emblem and a dark T-shirt which read “Full Throttle.” He was also described as having bad teeth and a stubbly beard.
Photos of the suspect taken by the bank’s surveillance system accompany this media release on the police department’s Internet site. Anyone recognizing him or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force at 232-7540.
