July 20, 2007

The woman killed in this morning’s collision involving a car and a minivan on Mt. View Road in South Nashville is identified as Karen Hicks, 45, of Underwood Road in Mt. Juliet.

Hicks was traveling east on Mt. View Road at 6:25 a.m. when her 1992 Buick LeSabre collided with a westbound 2004 Kia minivan driven by Jennifer Hofecker, 31, of Parrish Street in Lavergne. The collision occurred near the center of the roadway. The Buick erupted into flames at impact. Hicks was dead in the vehicle when the first fire unit arrived. Hofecker was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The exact position of the vehicles at the time of impact remains under investigation. Fault has not yet been determined. Officers found no indication that either vehicle braked or made any sudden evasive movement to avoid impact. The road was wet from a misting rain. Excessive speed does not appear to be a contributing factor at this point in the investigation. There was no evidence of alcohol usage at the scene on the part of either driver.
