Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening resulted in 37 arrests involving ten felonies, 37 misdemeanors, and 12 outstanding warrants. Seized were 154.7 grams of marijuana, two grams of cocaine, and 5.5 pills.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, the J.C. Napier public housing development, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, Trimble Bottoms, University Court, South 5th Street at Shelby Avenue, and the James Cayce public housing development.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Madison Park, Gallatin Pike at Old Hickory Boulevard, the 300 block of Rio Vista Drive, the Edgehill public housing development, Harding Place at Nolensville Pike, Apache Trail, Haywood Lane, and the 200 block of Tampa Drive.

In 2007 Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 919 arrests on 181 felony charges and 959 misdemeanor charges, 233 drug seizures, 21 gun seizures, the service of 186 outstanding warrants, 247 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,191 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
