Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening resulted in 22 arrests involving 13 felonies, 22 misdemeanors, and eight outstanding warrants. Seized were 215.9 grams of marijuana, 28.15 grams of cocaine, nine pills, one weapon, and $826 cash.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, the Edgehill public housing development, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, 6th Avenue North at Garfield Street, the Edgehill public housing development, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Haywood Lane, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, and the 4800 block of Bowfield Drive.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and eight patrol officers. Areas targeted were Harding Place, Tampa Drive, 12th Avenue South, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Cleveland Street at Joseph Avenue, and 22nd Avenue North at Osage Street.

In 2007 Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 852 arrests on 171 felony charges and 922 misdemeanor charges, 222 drug seizures, 21 gun seizures, the service of 174 outstanding warrants, 244 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 2,111 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
