Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 20, 2007

Outstanding police work by North Precinct Officers Jason Hunter and Brian Otto led to the arrest of three juveniles who are charged with robbing four young people at gunpoint Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of the Spring Branch Apartments at 1830 Spring Branch Drive.

Officer Otto responded to the apartment complex and quickly issued a description of the suspect’s 2002 gold Monte Carlo.

Minutes later, Officer Hunter spotted a Monte Carlo that matched the description of the getaway car on Myatt Drive. He initiated a traffic stop near Anderson Lane.

The occupants of the Monte Carlo, Xavier Gonzalez, 17, Diontae Thompson, 17, and Tevin Hayes, 16, all from Madison, were taken into custody without incident. Officers recovered cash and a loaded handgun from inside the car.

Gonzalez admitted that he ordered the victims to get out of their vehicle at gunpoint and robbed them before fleeing with Thompson and Hayes in the Monte Carlo at 4 p.m.

A witness told investigators that as Officer Hunter made a u-turn to pursue the suspects, they threw a purse and a wallet out a window of the getaway car. The recovered items belonged to two of the victims.

The victims, two men, 18 and 20-years-old, and two teenage girls, 16 and 17-years-old, positively identified Gonzalez as the person who robbed them at gunpoint, and Thompson and Hayes as the two suspects who remained in the car during the robbery.

Gonzalez, Thompson, and Hayes were booked into juvenile detention on four counts each of aggravated robbery. Gonzalez was also charged with unlawful weapon possession.
