Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening resulted in 36 arrests involving five felonies, 40 misdemeanors, and seven outstanding warrants. Seized were 12.5 grams of marijuana, 8.5 grams of cocaine, and two weapons.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of ten SID detectives and eight patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Cheatham Place public housing development, 6th Avenue North at Garfield Street, the Cumberland View public housing development, Buchanan Street, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Edgehill public housing development, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Apache Trail, Zermatt Avenue, Tampa Drive, Haywood Lane, Nolensville Pike, and Harding Place.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives, and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, the Edgehill public housing development, University Court, and the J.C. Napier public housing development.

In 2007 Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 753 arrests on 138 felony charges and 832 misdemeanor charges, 189 drug seizures, 19 gun seizures, the service of 158 outstanding warrants, 238 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 1,981 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
