FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 8, 2007

North Precinct detectives late Thursday night charged William Darelle Smith with criminal homicide for this week’s shooting death of his live-in girlfriend, Zurisaday Villanueva.

Villanueva, 24, a native of Puerto Rico, was found dead early Monday on Briley Parkway’s Ashland City Highway off ramp. She was identified through her fingerprints.

The investigation led by Detective Mike Roland determined that Villanueva was living with Smith at a Goodlettsville apartment that was leased to him. Efforts to locate Smith were unsuccessful until Thursday evening when he was found at a relative’s home. Smith agreed to be interviewed by Detective Roland. During the interview, he admitted to shooting Villanueva during an argument.

Villanueva, who was recorded on surveillance video visiting a local Wal-Mart last Sunday night, was driving Smith’s white Lincoln Continental. The car has not yet been recovered.

Smith, 25, who had no local arrest history, is being held without bond pending a hearing.
