FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 7, 2007

Domestic Violence detectives have identified the suspect in the brutal beating and kidnapping of a woman outside the Walgreens at 4001 Central Pike last night.

An arrest warrant charging aggravated kidnapping has been issued against Ambrose Branch, 42, who is last known to have lived on Evelyn Avenue. A witness saw Branch drive into the Walgreens lot and park next to the victim’s car at 10:30 p.m. Branch was seen entering the woman’s car through the passenger side door where he punched her repeatedly in the face and choked her before he forcibly removed her from the driver’s seat and drove away with the victim still inside the car. Police officers throughout the city worked for hours to locate the two.

At 4:15 a.m. Branch told the victim to pull over on Old Hickory Boulevard. He got out of the car and told the woman to go clean herself up.

The victim drove to her grandparent’s house in Wilson County. They called police and then transported her to Summit hospital where she was treated and released. Branch and the victim were supposed to meet for dinner to celebrate the woman’s 23rd birthday. Branch and the victim have a five-month-old child together.

The car Branch drove to Walgreens belonged to a woman who had hired him to detail it. The car was returned to her.

Branch has a lengthy arrest history with convictions for assault, unlawful weapon possession, and felony cocaine possession.

Anyone with information concerning Branch’s whereabouts is urged to call the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600.
