
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday afternoon and evening, resulted in 27 arrests involving one felony, 30 misdemeanors, and three outstanding warrants. Seized were 6.5 grams of marijuana, one pill, and two weapons.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted include Madison Park, Gallatin Pike, Due West Avenue, East Palestine Avenue, Webster Street, North Dupont Avenue, Neelys Bend, Martin Street, Pillow Street, Wedgewood Avenue, the Edgehill area, Harding Place, Paragon Mills, Apache Trail, Nolensville Pike, Wallace Road, and Haywood Lane.
In 2007 the Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has resulted in 689 arrests involving 750 misdemeanor charges, 119 felony charges, and 142 outstanding warrants.
