Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday, resulted in 28 arrests including three felonies, 31 misdemeanors, and five outstanding warrants. Seizures included 6.3 grams of marijuana, 9.55 grams of cocaine, and one weapon.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 15 SID detectives and nine patrol officers. Areas targeted were 8th Avenue North at Garfield Street, 2nd Avenue North at Church Street, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, 16th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, and 8th Avenue North at Monroe Street.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were University Court, J.C. Napier Court, Old Matthews Road at Trinity Lane, 23rd Avenue North, Osage Street, and 16th Avenue North at Buchanan Street.

In 2007 The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 626 arrests involving 678 misdemeanor charges, 115 felony charges, and 128 outstanding warrants.
