North Precinct detectives are continuing to search for the second suspect in Sunday afternoon’s attempted robbery of a 77-year-old customer inside the Stop-N-Shop Market at 5100 Indiana Avenue.
As the elderly man attempted to buy cough drops at 6:20 p.m., Anthony Lyons entered, put a gun to the victim’s stomach, and told him that he was going to rob and kill him. The 77-year-old, who later told officers that if he was going to die he was going down fighting, grabbed the pistol and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the gun discharged. Lyons, 25, received a serious wound to his leg and was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Subsequent investigation led to the identification of Lyons’ brother, William Lyons, as the driver of the getaway vehicle. William Lyons, 23, fled the scene after the shooting and remains at large.
Arrest warrants charging the brothers with attempted especially aggravated robbery have been issued. Anthony Lyons will be booked upon his discharge from the hospital.
Anyone seeing William Lyons or knowing his whereabouts is urged to contact North Precinct Investigations at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
