FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 3, 2007

Fifteen-year-old Benjamin Mitchell surrendered himself during the night to Special Investigations Division Detective Dwayne Greene and was booked into juvenile detention on a charge of unlawful gun possession.

Mitchell admitted to carrying an unloaded .22-calilber rifle from home onto an MTA bus Wednesday morning. He said he was carrying the gun for protection because he was threatened during an after school argument Tuesday afternoon by another teenager near Pearl-Cohn High School.
