
Sex Crimes and East Precinct officers are continuing in their efforts to identify a teenager suspected of raping one woman and trying to rape another last weekend.
At 2 p.m. last Saturday, a 17-year-old girl reported that she was walking in the 600 block of South 6th Street when the suspect came up behind her, put a gun to her head and threw her to the ground. The victim fought her attacker, who wound up fleeing after he saw another person approaching. The 17-year-old was not sexually assaulted or seriously injured.
At 4:45 p.m. last Saturday, a teenager matching the suspect’s description from South 6th Street entered a garage on South 11th Street and, at gunpoint, raped a woman in her 30’s who had just arrived home.
The suspect is black and is described as being between the ages of 13 and 16. He is approximately 5’4” tall, weighs approximately 110 pounds and has short hair. At the time of these two incidents, he was wearing a black shirt, faded blue jean shorts, and black and white Nike high-top tennis shoes with a red “Nike Swoosh.”
Anyone seeing the suspect or knowing his identity is urged to contact the police department’s Sex Crimes Unit at 862-7540 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
