South Precinct School Resource Officer Lawrence Taylor has been decommissioned and assigned to desk duty following his arrest Sunday on charges of misdemeanor domestic assault and felony reckless endangerment.
Taylor, 35, was taken into custody by Domestic Violence detectives at his Donelson home. He was booked at the Metro Jail and released after posting a $7,000 bond.
Taylor and his girlfriend, Sherhonda Armstrong, 22, were involved in an argument on their way home early Sunday. While Taylor was driving, Armstrong took his cell phone from his lap, after which he is alleged to have struck her in the face. Taylor exited I-40 at Briley Parkway, where Armstrong threw the phone out of the window. He stopped on the exit ramp. They both got out and continued to argue. A witness who pulled up behind Taylor’s vehicle called the police after seeing Taylor shove Armstrong and strike her upper chest with an open hand. Taylor retrieved his cell phone, got back into his car and drove off, leaving Armstrong on the exit ramp. Armstrong almost fell as Taylor accelerated.
Taylor is a ten-year police department veteran.
