The Nashville man killed in yesterday afternoon’s motorcycle-car collision on the ramp from Interstate 40 West to Interstate 24 East is identified as Gerald Dennis Russell, 67, of River Road Pike.
Russell was making a lane change on the ramp at 3:15 p.m. when he made contact with a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by J.H. Ritchie of Adams, Tennessee. Russell lost control of his 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle and struck the retaining wall on the right shoulder of the ramp. Russell was thrown over the wall where he landed on a rock bluff below the overpass. He was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.
Russell’s excessive speed and illegal lane change appear to be the contributing factors to this fatal crash.
