East Precinct Detective Bill Stewart this afternoon charged Derrick Sloan Taylor with criminal homicide for the April 5 shooting death of Vincent Thomas on a sidewalk in the 1000 block of North 2nd Street.
Taylor, 21, was identified by witnesses as the person who shot Thomas during a drug transaction. Taylor was apprehended at 3 p.m. at a friend’s home on North 2nd Street.
Thomas, 42, of Lucille Street, was shot in the lower back at 11:15 p.m. on April 5. During the investigation, Detective Stewart learned that Thomas had gone to the North 2nd Street area to make a drug purchase.
