Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday resulted in 39 arrests involving three felonies, 41 misdemeanors, and eight outstanding warrants. Seizures included 25.4 grams of marijuana and 2.4 grams of cocaine.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 10 SID detectives and eight patrol officers. Areas targeted include the Bellevue area, 14th, and 16th Avenues North at Ireland Street, 28th Avenue North, Clifton Avenue, the Pearl Cohn High School area, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Trimble Bottoms, Harding Place, Haywood Lane, and the Paragon Mills area.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of 12 SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted include 23rd Avenue North at Buchanan Street, Osage Street, the 600 block of Shelby Avenue, the Dickerson Pike area, Meridian Street, 5th Avenue North at Garfield Street, 11th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, and Cephas Street.

In 2007 The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 505 arrests involving 550 misdemeanor charges, 95 felony charges, and 119 outstanding warrants.
