North Precinct detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying two women who confronted a 63-year-old woman in a Kmart parking lot Friday, March 30, and forced her to withdraw money from two banks.
The victim said she encountered the women at 12 p.m. in the Kmart parking lot at 1508 South Gallatin Pike and was pushed into her car. The women told the victim to drive to the First Tennessee Bank branch at 1206 South Gallatin Pike. One of the women entered the bank with the victim, who attempted to withdraw cash using her credit card. The card had not yet been activated and was declined.
The suspects threatened to stab the woman if she did not provide them with her personal information. She complied and the first suspect began efforts to activate the card.
The suspects next told the victim to drive to the AmSouth Bank branch at 615 South Gallatin Pike. She again entered the bank with one of the suspects and attempted to use her card, which was declined. However, the victim was able to cash a check at this location and gave the money to the suspects.
The victim told police that the suspects were eventually able to activate her credit card and that she was forced to drive to a third bank, the AmSouth Bank branch at 3904 Gallatin Pike. The victim was able to make a credit card transaction at this location and gave the cash to the suspects.
The victim said the two women dropped the victim off at a pharmacy on Gallatin Pike and told her not to come out of the store for five minutes. The victim complied. When she came out, her vehicle was in the parking lot, but the suspects were gone. She then drove home and called police.
The first suspect appears to be in her 40s, is approximately 5’6” tall and weighs 150 pounds. The second suspect appears to be in her 40s, is approximately 5’4” tall and weighs 140 pounds.
Anyone with information about this kidnapping/robbery or who recognizes one of the suspects from bank surveillance photos, is urged to contact North Precinct Detective Robert Hanson at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
