
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday resulted in 53 arrests involving seven felonies, 54 misdemeanors, and ten outstanding warrants. Seizures included 145.8 grams of marijuana, seven grams of cocaine, 136 Schedule II pills, and two weapons.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of 15 SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Garrison Street, Creekwood North, the Parkwood area, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, the Buchanan Street area, the Cumberland View public housing development, the Madison area, 25th Avenue North at Herman Street, 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, North 2nd Street, Joseph Street, the Dellway Villa Apartments, McFerrin Park, the James Cayce public housing development, the Dickerson Pike area from North 1st Street to Trinity Lane, and the Salemtown area.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were 28th Avenue North, 12th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, Edgehill Avenue, Harding Place, Paragon Mills at Nolensville Pike, Trimble Bottoms, the J.C. Napier public housing development, and University Court.
In 2007 The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 433 arrests involving 469 misdemeanor charges, 80 felony charges, and 96 outstanding warrants.
