Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday night, resulted in 23 arrests including the apprehension of two juvenile suspects in the Jose Flores murder, four felonies, 24 misdemeanors, and two outstanding warrants. Seizures included 8.6 grams of marijuana, and one gram of cocaine.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and two patrol officers. Areas targeted were the lower East Precinct area, Dellway Villa, Porter Road, Buchanan Street, and the Madison area.
Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Charlotte Pike at 16th Avenue North, Jo Johnston Avenue, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike at Paragon Mills Road, Harding Place, Trimble Bottoms, the J.C. Napier public housing development, and University Court.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 811 arrests involving 888 misdemeanor charges, 171 felony charges, and 208 outstanding warrants.
