Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 14, 2007

Outstanding teamwork between members of the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, South Precinct patrol officers, SWAT officers assigned to the police department’s Special Response Team, Canine and Aviation Units led to today’s arrest of a Nashville man in the midst of a crime spree.

Christopher George Hollis, 35, of Cherokee Court, confessed to this morning’s robbery of SunTrust Bank’s 2509 Murfreesboro Pike branch and Tuesday’s robbery of AmSouth Bank’s 15580 Old Hickory Boulevard office.

In today’s 7:45 a.m. robbery, Hollis held nine bank employees hostage until he was given money from the vault. He threatened to remotely detonate a small device he placed on a desk in the bank if employees called police. He fled with the money in a pickup truck. The device turned out to be harmless. It was rendered safe by the police department’s Bomb Squad.

Police discovered Hollis’ getaway pick up truck parked on the shoulder of the 4800 block of Nolensville Pike in front of a used car lot where Hollis had just purchased a Camaro with cash. Hollis was driving the Camaro in the 4500 block of Nolensville Pike at 11:15 a.m. when he was stopped by officers and taken into custody. A large amount of cash was recovered from the Camaro and the pickup truck. Items believed to have been stolen in recent car break-ins in the South Nashville area were also recovered from the pickup truck.

Hollis has been charged in Saturday’s burglary of a pet store in which $8,000 dollars worth of animals and merchandise were stolen. He is also charged with attempted aggravated robbery in connection with an attempted carjacking Sunday night.

Tomorrow, Hollis is expected to be charged federally with crimes involving the bank robberies.

Hollis’ arrest history shows prior convictions for aggravated burglary and theft.
