Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 13, 2007

Fugitive Larry Wade, who, among other matters, is a person of interest in last May’s murder of Cheryl Denise Phillips, surrendered himself at police headquarters at 5 a.m. today.

Wade, 28, who has eluded capture for the past several months, is charged in Nashville with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. He is also wanted in Chattanooga for failing to appear in court on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, evading arrest, and felony reckless endangerment.

Metro detectives are seeking to interview Wade regarding the murder of Cheryl Phillips, who was shot in the back while attending a barbeque on Edgehill Avenue in celebration of Glencliff High School’s graduation class, of which her daughter was a member.

Three men approached the Edgehill gathering and opened fire. The three arrived and fled in Wade’s car. The car was recovered a few days later behind his aunt’s home.

Wade was recently featured on billboards donated by Lamar Advertising as part of the effort to bring him into custody. Lamar began partnering with the police department last year to help apprehended dangerous fugitives.
