
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday resulted in 38 arrests involving one felony, 45 misdemeanors, and four outstanding warrants. Seizures included 19.4 grams of marijuana, one Ecstasy pill, six Vicodin pills, and three Lortab pills.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, County Hospital Road, Fisk Park, 24th Avenue North and Burch Street, the James Cayce public housing development, North 2nd Street, Hancock Street, North 1st Street and Spring Street, Cleveland Street, Douglas Avenue and Ellington Parkway, Annex Avenue, 16th Avenue North and Jo Johnston Avenue, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Murfreesboro Pike and Thompson Place, and Trimble Bottoms.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were Charlotte Pike, 16th Avenue North, Buchanan Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, North 1st Street, Spring Street and North 2nd Street, Hancock Street, Jefferson Street and 8th Avenue North, and Garfield Street.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 915 arrests involving 1014 misdemeanor charges, 183 felony charges, and 340 outstanding warrants.
