
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday resulted in 38 arrests involving nine felonies, 43 misdemeanors, and 21 outstanding warrants. Seizures included 2.7 grams of marijuana, 66.7 grams of cocaine, 36 Ecstasy pills, five various Schedule II pills, and two weapons.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were North 2nd Street, Hancock Street, Cleveland Street, Meridian Street, Ramsey Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, 12th Avenue North, Cass Street, Jefferson Street, 14th Avenue North, Trimble Bottoms, the Parkwood Community Center, Jo Johnston Avenue, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, and Torbett Street.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted were Jo Johnston Avenue, 16th Avenue North, Buchanan Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, North 1st Street, Spring Street and North 2nd Street, Hancock Street, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, Trimble Bottoms, and Jefferson Street.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 877 arrests involving 969 misdemeanor charges, 182 felony charges, and 336 outstanding warrants.
