Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday night, resulted in 22 arrests involving three felonies, 27 misdemeanors, and three outstanding warrants. Seizures included 3.5 grams of marijuana, 7.6 grams of cocaine, one Ecstasy pill, two vehicles, and one weapon.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, Jefferson Street, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, Clay Street, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, Garfield Street, Delta Avenue, Jo Johnston Avenue, Herman Street, the Edgehill area, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development area, Trimble Bottoms, Murfreesboro Road, Millwood Drive, Thompson Lane, Thompson Place, the James Cayce public housing development, Main Street, and the Dickerson Pike area.

Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and eight patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Fisk University area, Blank Street, Jackson Street, 16th Avenue North, Herman Street, Edgehill Avenue, 11th Avenue South, Hillside Avenue, Murfreesboro Pike and Thompson Lane, University Court, Trimble Bottoms, Lafayette Street and Lewis Street, the J.C. Napier public housing development, and Millwood Drive.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 788 arrests involving 864 misdemeanor charges, 167 felony charges, and 206 outstanding warrants.
