A man was stabbed multiple times inside the Nashville Rescue Mission this morning. Frank Edward Nixon, Jr., 54, told detectives he stabbed Joseph Mark Chandler, 36, in retaliation for an altercation he had with Chandler earlier in the week. Both men reside at the mission at 639 Lafayette Street.
According to Central Precinct detectives at 7:30 a.m. Nixon stabbed Chandler in the mission’s reception area and then chased him into the waiting room where Chandler fell to the ground. Nixon continued stabbing Chandler until other men in the area were able to subdue him.
Chandler is in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Nixon was transported to General Hospital with minor wounds to his hand. A 62-year-old man involved in subduing Nixon fell and dislocated his shoulder.
Nixon is charged with attempted criminal homicide. Nixon’s prior arrest history includes charges of domestic assault, driving on a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
