Metro police officer Ernest Cecil today resigned from the police department, effective immediately, with disciplinary action pending.
Cecil, 49, was indicted by a federal grand jury on cocaine-related charges last December. He had been on administrative desk duty in a decommissioned status since December 2004, when he initially came under investigation for wearing his pistol while drinking off-duty in a 2nd Avenue bar.
