FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 26, 2007

A Texas prison escapee, who drove a stolen Wal-Mart truck into a field 50 yards from his mother’s home near Coopertown Monday afternoon, is now suspected of stealing Country Music entertainer Crystal Gayle’s tour bus from a storage lot on Hickory Hills Boulevard in Nashville.

Christopher Daniel Gay, 32, told an employee of the USA Race Track in Lakeland, Florida, Thursday around 6:30 p.m. that he was there to pick up NASCAR driver Tony Stewart. The employee became suspicious and notified Crystal Gayle. The bus was last seen in the storage lot Sunday, January 21. The employee was able to identify Gay from a photograph. Gay drove off from the Florida race track before it was known that the bus had been stolen.

Gay escaped Sunday night in Hardeeville, South Carolina, during a restroom break as he was being transported in a prison van from Texas to face charges in Georgia. He has numerous theft and forgery convictions in Nashville.
