
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday nights, resulted in 44 arrests involving two felony and 39 misdemeanor charges. Thirteen outstanding warrants were served. Seizures included 7.4 grams of marijuana, 6.2 grams of cocaine, and $6,410.00 cash.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday night’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, Buchanan Street, Cephas Street, Clay Street, Jefferson Street, Herman Street, Pearl-Cohn High School, the Madison area, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, and Trimble Bottoms.
Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and eight patrol officers. Areas targeted were Paragon Mills Park, Tampa Drive at Harding Place, Jo Johnston Avenue, the Edgehill area, University Court, Trimble Bottoms, and Thompson Place at Murfreesboro Pike.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 703 arrests involving 742 misdemeanor charges, 143 felony charges and 190 outstanding warrants.
