Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday nights, resulted in 24 arrests involving eight felony and 24 misdemeanor charges. One outstanding warrant was served. Seizures included 97 grams of marijuana, .9 grams of crack cocaine, one vehicle, one weapon, and $4355 cash.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday night’s enforcement consisted of 10 SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were Harding Place at Tampa Drive, Glencliff High School, Trimble Bottoms, University Court, Thompson Place, Haywood Lane, Paragon Mills Road, the Edgehill area, 1500 Porter Road, the North 2nd Street area, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, 7th Avenue North at Garfield Street, the County Hospital Road area, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Avenue, and 14th Avenue North at Clay Street.

Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of four SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Paragon Mills Road at Linbar Drive, Nolensville Pike at Harding Place, Nolensville Pike at Thompson Lane, South 5th Street at Shelby Avenue, South 10th Street at Shelby Avenue, 8th Avenue North at Jefferson Street, and the Opry Mills Mall.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 659 arrests involving 727 misdemeanor charges, 141 felony charges and 177 outstanding warrants.
