FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 8, 2007

The pedestrian killed on Gallatin Pike Sunday evening has been identified as a 47-year-old homeless man, David Richard Davis. Investigators say Davis was attempting to cross Gallatin Pike near the intersection of Hunter’s Meadow Lane at 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by a Ford Expedition. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Explorer, Kevin Owens, 23, of Nashville, told investigators he did not see Davis, who was dressed in dark clothing, until Davis was directly in front of his vehicle. Investigators say the cause of the accident appears to be Davis' failure to yield to the vehicle as he crossed the street. There was no evidence that alcohol or speed played a role in the accident on the part of the driver.
