
Last weekend's Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative resulted in 39 arrests including a juvenile on the Department of Children’s Services Top Ten Absconder list. The 16-year-old was charged with felony cocaine possession, criminal impersonation, and for being a runaway after officers encountered him at 25th Avenue North and Buchanan Street.
At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday night’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives. Areas targeted were 25th Avenue North & Buchanan Street, the Edgehill area, 1500 Porter Road, the James Cayce public housing development, and the Parkwood area.
Saturday night's enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, University Court, the J.C. Napier public housing development, the Trimble Bottom area, Murfreesboro Pike & Thompson Place, and Harding Place at Tampa Drive.
The enforcement effort resulted in eleven drug seizures and one gun seizure last weekend.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 635 arrests involving 703 misdemeanor charges, 133 felony charges and 176 outstanding warrants.
