FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 2, 2007

A woman who intentionally ran over two people at a New Year’s Eve party was removed from a Las Vegas bound plane just minutes before take off New Year’s Day. Excellent investigative work by South Precinct officers and detectives is credited with the timely arrest of Marquita Lewis.

Witnesses said Lewis, 21, of Murfreesboro, arrived intoxicated at a party hosted by Kim Hundley, 18, at Hundley’s home on Joann Court. Lewis became argumentative and was asked to leave. Lewis got into a Chevy Malibu around 2:15 a.m. with her husband and continued to argue with Hundley who was standing in front of the car. A witness said Lewis drove forward and struck her on purpose. Hundley was thrown to the pavement. Her 17 year old brother, William Hundley, then jumped in front of the vehicle trying to prevent the couple from leaving. He was also struck by the vehicle and thrown to the pavement. Lewis and her husband left the scene.

Both victims were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and released. Lewis’ husband, Matt, visited the injured brother and sister in the hospital. He was invited to the party because he was friends with Kim Hundley’s boyfriend. He cooperated with police and does not face charges.

Lewis was on a 1:30 p.m. flight bound for Las Vegas. She was removed from the plane without incident. Her three year old son was with her and was turned over to her husband, the child’s father.
